I'm thinking the resolution of the original JPGs is too high. Go back to those and reduce it to like 72dpi, or whatever the minimum readable size it, then make a PDF from that.
How to compress 62,681 KB in less than 2 MB?

What's the resolution of the JPEG(s) at the size they're going to be output at (8.5 x 11 or whatever)? JPEG is an already compressed format (worse, it's a "lossy" compressed format), but if file has been saved at a higher than necessary resolution, I'd say over 200 - 300dpi at final size for a text document, you might be able to shed some size by using a program that can downsample the images as part of saving the PDF. As much as you're hoping for? That could be a stretch.

Kap, start over and fax thge docs to someone with a fax-to-email capability using the highest quality setting on the fax machine. The resulting files will be small and perfectly legible for what you're doing.

![]() The requirements: A- These files must be converted to PDFs. B- These files must be converted to one single PDF file. C- The "B" file must be under 2 MB. D- The "B" file must be attached to an online application.

Sorry, kap, but you're SOL.

LOL, you're still messing with this? is that sensitive information? just send it to someone to do it for you. If you trust me, go ahead, you have my email when I did some OCR for you (except the form you sent back then was crappy)

I don't know why N-OS X-tasy! is being so negative. As an experiment, I just combined a few PDF's of images to create a 60MB PDF. I then simply used the "Reduce File Size" option in Acrobat and it created a 1.6MB PDF. And Acrobat has more powerful options for tweaking file size. Sure, I lost a lot of resolution in the process, so it all depends on what you need, but it was certainly fine for on-screen viewing.
Unfortunately, I am not familiar with software you say you have.

N-OS X-tasy!,
Not so fast! space-time, Yes, it's sensitive docs otherwise I would have taken your offer. Thanks! Gareth, I would have done it your way and others' similar suggestions if I had Acrobat. Oh, yeah, regarding N-OS X-tasy!'s remark. That is just his endearing self ![]() Here is how I did it with a lit' help from my Windows user buddy in VA: 1- Resized the JPEGs with PicPerk. 2- Converted those files into PDFs one at a time. Good thing I only had 5 with which to do! 3- Dropped them into PDF Creator. 4- Export them into a single PDF file. VOILA! Step 1 was the most tedious as I didn't know what those numbers meant, ![]() I just halved the new width and let the app do the rest.

That was buggin' me. Like the whole "...in less than twelve parsecs" thing. (Unless you consider he was actually referring to distance and not time. Then it makes sense. Or sounds like it does.) |
