The biggest issue in the US is that we have so many airports compared to other countries and we aren't willing to fund a proper security screening system. We should also resort to profiling travelers or better yet reverse profile - identify those that are not a threat and ease security up on them.

I agree. I hate to pile on with bitching about the TSA, but it's exactly the response the terrorists were hoping for: something that costs us billions of dollars, impedes travel, humiliates Americans and turns us against each other.

i travel a fair amount and am neutral on the TSA. however, items were stolen out of checked luggage long before the TSA came about. it has always been known NOT to check valuables. who knows if theft is happening more but now the non-TSA thieves know no one will be looking for them as the TSA has keys and is everyone's favorite whipping boy.
