We belong to a CSA (community supported agriculture), so we get a crate of veggies each week. This time of year, there's always a fullbasil bush - so that gets turned into pesto and frozen for winter.
My wife makes her pie dough in the food processor.
Also, cole slaw, shredding veggies for meat loaf, slicing veggies, chopping sausage, bread crumbs ...

Sounds like it is handy for some but probably not for me. I guess we will stick with the black and decker for the once a year zucchini project. Thanks for all the input.

Interesting that pesto is at the top of everyone's list. I find that a blender and wooden spoon to push down the ingredients works better and is less hassle.

Ack, you're right, pie dough and tart crusts. It's not easy, what with you asking these tough questions so early in the morning!

Alton Brown, who is quite the gadget freak, also believes that you shouldn't buy anything unless you plan on using it regularly.
He has an interesting approach to purging your kitchen of things you don't need.

At the house I have an older cuisinart with all the attachments, I would use it all the time, mostly slicing and chopping veggies, also for bread dough.
Once we got on the road in the motorhome, I missed it but knew that it would be too large for the rig. I got a great stick blender with a bowl attachment for chopping, etc and have used it ever since. The main thing I looked for was a powerful motor with a turbo boost.
I also started making no knead bread, YUM!
We've been back at the house for close to a year and I haven't used the Cuisinart once. It would work better for large jobs, but I just don't seem to have the need.
Also, I boughht one Shun knife and now chopping, etc. Is quite easy.
