Those "owners" bought patents from a third party and then spun them out soley for the purpose of filing lawsuits. That's exactly what a company like Intellectual Ventures does. Now Intellectual Ventures is an honest business?

If Apple was not involved, I doubt the spin would be so positive. Apple doubled down in support of trolling. A part of me wishes for every such company to lose their own defense in similar cases as this "Smartphone patent". Maybe then we could have meaningful changes made to patent law.

Intellectual Ventures has absolutely no involvement from practicing entities. That is quite different from Rockstar's ownership, all of whom are, in fact, practicing entities.

That's incorrect. Companies have funneled patents into IV, not to mention direct cash infusions. The system is in shambles and Apple, Microsoft, etc. are perpetuating the problem.

Don't believe me? Read what the jury said about this Apple case. Some still thought Apple was bullying a small independent inventor even if they couldn't legally agree on damages. Never mind other smartphones predated the patent. These jurors have no clue. Apple might be a key player in patent trolling at this point, but they were not wrong in anyway in this particular case.
