Pretty freakin' hard ever since ATT cracked down on bulk unlockers to the detriment of all of us.
I think this happened October of 2013. Before that, you could pay a service on eBay 2 or 3 bucks to get it unlocked.

Jailbreak and unlock is still possible? AT&T will unlock at some point as well, right? If I add this to a prepaid line, would AT&T ever unlock it? I'm guessing no.

pinkoos,
Forgot to thank you for the info and yes, AT&T really is awful sometimes.

I haven't kept up with the JB community in a long time, so not sure of the answers to your questions. Also don't know much about ATT prepaid (I'm on TMobile prepaid and my wife is a couple of weeks away from fulfilling her 2 year ATT contract).

I'm on T-Mobile postpaid right now, but I know some people with various AT&T services. Wondering if I could finagle myself an unlock.

I think the new carrier unlock law means AT&T will have to carrier unlock these for you.
I agree - this is a killer deal for a great phone.

$300 for a functionally unlocked version? Seems like it should be worth the $50 difference. Then again, I asked my partner and she acted like I was crazy, "$300, no thanks, don't need an iPhone." Well then, I picked up a used Pebble instead. $82 minus some AMEX bonus points brought it $65 (Amazon). That's my big tech purchase of the week.
