You're only saving $30 off an Apple Store refurb (plus the tax). I would rather buy direct from Apple for that price.

Not sure why, its new from B&H. And B&H could mean no tax. Buying from apple offers no real benefit.

I thought that AAPL equipped all modern fusion drives with a 128 GB SSD component.

They changed the 1 TB version to smaller 32 GB size. 2 and 3 TB versions have the 128 GB.

Keep in mind that the SSD component of that Fusion drive offers only 32GB of capacity. Aside from that, a great price on a great machine.

From good ole' Tidbits https://tidbits.com/2017/08/07/imac-1-tb...ller-ssds/:

I’d heard rumors that Apple had at some point reduced the amount of SSD storage in the 1 TB Fusion Drive, but I didn’t know where to confirm the amounts until hearing about it at MacTech Pro. Strangely, Apple doesn’t mention the sizes of the hard disk and SSD in the Fusion Drive on the Tech Specs page for the Macs that have it as an option (the iMac and the Mac mini). Instead, you can find the information only by configuring a Mac for purchase, and clicking the “How much storage is right for you?” link above the storage options. That displays a pop-up with the details.

There you’ll learn that, although the 1 TB Fusion Drive in the Mac mini includes a 1 TB hard disk and a 128 GB SSD, as did the original 1 TB Fusion Drive in the iMac, the 1 TB Fusion Drive you can purchase with any current iMac model includes only a 32 GB SSD. However, the 2 TB and 3 TB Fusion Drives available for the 27-inch iMac with Retina display both include 128 GB SSDs.

I guess that using the smaller 32 GB SSD with the 1 TB Fusion drive is good for AAPL shareholders.

Oh, LEADER to you! Smile-D I would love a new iMac, and have had great luck buying from B&H.

Would the extra RAM in your wife's old computer transfer to the new one? Although, I stuck with 8 GB for a long time and it was fine, even with Adobe CC apps (just didn't leave so many things open at once).

Ram is way, way, way different. best bang for the buck (right now) on the new one is to add 16 GB for a total of 24 GB. About $125. (is it just me or is ram way up in $?)

The old RAM is not compatible (the iMacs are 6 years apart).

It's a TB2 dock and does what I need it to. I can live with the $50 cable. It's this 12 port dock:
