Following this procedure helped me delete and reinstall DropBox, performed all Terminal Commands as prescribed. The quirkiness of the intermittent DropBox behavior resolved itself.

I was kind of aware of that issue that you describe in the thread you linked. I bought a new MacBook Air in the beginning of the year (last model that still had the non USB-C ports on it). I put an OWC 1TB SSD in it. I may migrate everything over to that to avoid any issues that may be around the corner! ;-)

Did that lower the fans?

Yes, surprisingly the fans have settled down with what little time I have used it since fixing DropBox. If anything changes, will report back later...

Two days into fixing my DropBox issue, and the 2011 MBP has settled down quite a bit. The Activity Monitor now shows DropBox being way down in the noise too.

I think awhile back that I moved the DropBox folder from the User Folder to the Desktop, which may have made it crazy (?).
