If it happened in Florida, it would not have been news.

Exactly $20k showed up as a deposit in my account. I ignored it for a few days after which it was removed by the bank.

Oooooh, from a car to a car. What a range of items.

Meanwhile, when a bank deposits your money into the wrong account, or just loses the deposit after you make the deposit at the branch, nothing happens to them.

.....once had the bank lose check deposited in ATM.....despite the fact that I had ATM receipt, they 'charged back the deposit'.......the deposit literally 'disappeared' and they said they could do nothing about it [ again, I had ATM receipt ]......

....luckily, it was small amount....from that day on I tried to deposit in person in a bank.....but at some point, you have to make deposits in ATM......

I've had it happen twice, but with tellers and a significant amount of of money. The first time it took a week to resolve. The second time I wouldn't leave the manager's office until the money was back into my account.

No... you don't.
I have NEVER made a deposit at an ATM.

You don't HAVE to deposit at an ATM. I do checks on the mobile App, but I can't deposit cash via iPhone and I prefer the drive-up ATM to going inside...
