That's why they spread it out over 12 years. His cap hit in 2020 will be just 5.3 million. 2021 it goes to 25 million. The contract is heavily backloaded towards the end and each year there are guarantee mechanisms he'd have to reach. If he hits all of his incentives, he could earn over $500 million.

Mike Trout on the other hand, will receive every dime of his $426 million contract even if he got hit by a bus tomorrow.

Assuming they actually play on the field, this is true capitalism at work. Likely underpaid if he does well.

Mahomes was the 10th overall pick in the 2017 draft.
I wonder how it would've turned out in a bizarro alternate universe if the Browns chose Mahomes with the first overall pick.

This kid has the stuff that Drew Brees and John Elway has/had. It's starts with his mentality, continues with his athleticism and on to his guts. He's a football player
