It's not Credit Karma directly spamming you.

Sure, I will give you that. And well, I think now days that's pretty much a given with any site. =(

If you're not seeing the spam, you've just got a good spam filter.

then i guess i should thank Apple Mail because I don't see it and it's not even showing up in my Mail junk/spam folder. Thanks, Tim.
It might be your email provider that’s filtering spam.

Same as Graylocks and others, never an issue with Credit Karma.

Thanks to posts here, I recently went to Credit Karma. They are awesome.

EDIT: Also, I get a free credit report from Wells Fargo - so that may be an option too from your bank.

You can do it through Discover even if you don't have their credit card. Of course, they then have your email address...

Just make sure your daughter realizes that getting a credit score from one source isn't really helpful. My wife and I are buying a new house, and as part of the mortgage process, we got to see our credit scores from three different agencies. They were rife with inaccurate information, and the scores had a wide range. We both pay all of our credit cards off in full every month, except for one that has zero percent interest for another 3 years (why pay it off early when it's at zero percent?). My car is paid off, hers is about half way there. We own our current house outright with no mortgage. Yet two of the agencies said both of us had "too many unpaid balances". WTF?

Having a 0% interest rate doesn't mean that you have no obligation to pay a monthly minimum towards the principal without consequences. Take a few minutes to read your card-holder agreement and you'll probably find a clause indicating that they report payment-deficits after 90 days.

Also, by carrying that balance, you're reducing the amount of available credit you have vs the total amount of credit you're carrying and inflating your debt-to-income ratio. That's a ding on your credit score.

Pay off all of your credit cards. There's no upside to carrying balances.

CK does a lot more than just give you a credit score, fwiw.

Did the discover one, it shows my score is 5 less than my bank (a credit union), but that's still nearly 30 more than CK.

I see the discover one gives you minimal info about accounts, not really enough to be helpful if you were trying to do some troublehooting.

WHICH Credit Score does she want to see? I understand that FICO has at least EIGHT different "credit scores". I'm guessing that as consumers have been getting access to some of these credit scores, "reporting agencies" are changing things up to try to maintain their control.
