Super Bowl Poll - Who should I root for?
#11
[quote MartyStickle]The Giants
Any bowl without the Giants just ain't "super" Smile

[quote karsen]Reasons I have to root for the Bears:
- I'm a diehard Lions fan so having a team win from the same Division is nice.
That's just wrong. A Michigan fan would never root for Ohio St, a USC fan would never root for UCLA, Auburn/Alabama, etc. etc.

Not that the Lions have been fierce in a long time, but if the Bears are your bitter rival, you've got your answer.

Root for the commercials not to suck. It's the only thing I watch it for.

This Lions fan will never root for the Viqueens. I have a soft spot for the Bears since I spent a lot of time there as a kiddo.

Da Bears.

By most accounts, Peyton Manning is a good guy, but I'm too thorougly sick of all the Manning-worship to root for him.

Besides which, Chicago fans crack me up.

[quote karsen]Peyton Manning is an A-hole. He's never, NEVER, won a big game either in college or the pros. After nearly every big loss he's had some sort of blame to place on teammates. Throwing a team mate under the bus after a loss is not carrying yourself well. This goes all the way back to Tennessee losses against Florida.

I've seen him waive off the punt team on 4th down before, essentially taking things in his own hands. He also calls the line blocking. He also calls many of his own plays (ever wonder why they throw the ball on 1st and goal from the 1 yard line so much?).

There's no doubt he is a great QB but when you take on that kind of responsibility on the field then you should man up and take the blame that goes along with it.
Wow, harsh words. Were you watching two weeks ago? I'd call that a big game, and that's just the most recent one. I've never heard Peyton call out an individual on his team after a loss. Peyton calls out each play because he studies more than any other player in the game. When he goes to the huddle he's given three plays by the offensive coordinator: 2 run, 1 pass. It's then his decision to make the call at the line, based on the defensive scheme presented by the other team.

To call him an a-hole? That's just unreasonable. Show me some facts. And leave the Irsay family out of it. That's an old excuse and it has been 23 years.

Who is in the Superbowl this year? Did Seattle make it? I know that Pittsburgh flopped spectacularly early on.

I don't really think of Peyton as an A-hole, but didn't he throw his offensive line under the bus last year after their playoff loss?

From Wikipedia:

Following the Colts' 2006 playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Manning drew criticism for post-game statements that seemed to shift the blame to his offensive line. Manning stated that, "I'm trying to be a good teammate here.... let's just say we had some problems with protection."

GO BEARS!

Ok, let's not take it out of context. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist...olts_x.htm

He didn't call ONE person out, as many other players around the league would. The man, fresh off of a heart-breaking defeat that was lost on a field goal attempt, was hounded by reporters.

Peyton is a solid guy, and a solid role-model. That's why the NFL holds him in such the high esteem. That's why he gets all the endorsements. People *want* to be associated with a person of his character. And the Colts are full of people like him ever since the two jokers (Edge and Vander-Nut-Sack) left.

There are some solid guys on the Bears too (with the exception of the idiot who needed court permission to travel outside the state lines of IL, Mr. Tank Johnson). Urlacher deserves a win just as much as anyone else. He's a classy guy too. This is a fantastic SuperBowl match up. One of the best all-time defenses meet a top of the line offense. It does not get much better than that.

My point is, there are so many other people to hate on in the NFL: Chad Johnson (or any of the arrested Bengals for that matter), Keyshawn Johnson, TO... There's no need to dump on solid characters like Peyton.
