Gut Wrenching commercial.

Neither are the Global Warming Brownshirts...
So they're on an even footing.

The Pedigree ad.
Yes, I know it is ultimately an advertisement, but still strikes a chord with me. All my dogs are shelter dogs.

I don't even particularly LIKE most dogs...
But that commercial gets to me EVERY time.
Whoever wrote and produced it has earned a raise!

[quote ScottG]Hi Elmo

Are you a climatologist? I would be interested to hear the clear, rational reasoning which demonstrates that global warming is a cult.
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.

Now just look to a Google search:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22global+warming%22+mars&sa=N&tab=nw

I also find it interesting that one of the cult's predominant spokesmen won't actually talk to anyone about or debate on the subject. Al Gore just refuses. And yet he continues to spout off on the subject. Personally, I liked the one about how "global warming" is so bad that it caused the ocean to rise enough that a whole island full of people found themselves flooded out, and they had to flee to New Zealand--despite no evidence whatsoever from anywhere, and despite being questioned by New Zealand itself.

The UN report is a report of politics, not of scientific fact. The report of scientific fact is not yet out--but the politicians felt they had to respond to it BEFORE it came out and get their political knickers in a twist and their faces before the public FIRST, before the actual facts come to light.

Awhile back we endured a few years of the Atkins diet, and this is no different.

Thanks for the links Elmo- I have read them, and so far I do not see evidence that global warming is a cult. From the first link, which was very interesting- although there is some evidence that the polar ice caps on Mars are shrinking, this is an observation- the mechanism, or causitive effect, is so far unknown. In the article, Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov stated that "Mars has global warming, but without a greenhouse and without the participation of Martians. These parallel global warmings -- observed simultaneously on Mars and on Earth -- can only be a straightline consequence of the effect of the one same factor: a long-time change in solar irradiance." Unfortunately, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, this conclusion is no more than conjecture. I would be interested in finding the climate model, or evidence for, his reasoning that we are about to enter a global ice-age. If I have time, I will have a look on NCBI tonight, or perhaps you could point me in the direction of the relevant articles.

As to politicians becoming involved in science- yes, this often confuses the issue. Your third link, regarding Gore, has nothing to do with the scientific basis or otherwise for global warming. Gore is a politician and a spokesperson, not a scientist. As to data becoming mangled by the political machine this is true- the most recent IPCC study may have been toned down in response to political pressure. It is unfortunate that the peer-reviewed work of 600 scientists is second-guessed by non-scientists for political reasons.

[quote DavidS][quote cbelt3]yep. My daughter (19) started crying and walked away from the TV.

I will say that the most pitiful superbowl ad was the "GM Robot Suicide Dream" ad. I mean, how horrible ! Imagine being a laid off auto worker watching people make fun of your personal plight. GM should lay off their advertiser for that one. Oh, and of course, most of their management and union management for screwing them up so badly.
I totally agree with you on this. Both GM and Ford have closed their Atlanta plants over the last 6 months. I know several people who lost their jobs, their health insurance, and will have to find totally new jobs. In light of the staggering financial losses these companies have had, I found that commercial to be particularly insensitive.
This ad was done in very poor taste. I kept thinking about all the lost jobs in the auto plants
and the recent announcement of 1180 layoffs at the nearby Freightliner plant.

[quote AlphaDog]It reduces me to tears, and I've gotten to the point where I grab the remote and hit Mute and try not to look. Louie is a shelter dog, and I've been looking at the Petfinder site again, but I really have no business getting another dog. It's all I can do to take care of Louie and me properly. Sad
A month ago due to financial constraint and the demand of a greater responsibility, we had to give up our Lady, an adorable 9 week old female Beagle-Boston Terrier pup. My S/O did not want to pick her up during her 2 week stay with us because S/O knew it would be hard to see Lady go. Our 6 year old shelter dog Einstein and I were heart-broken when that day came. Through much research and "interview" we found a care loving home for Lady. Since then she has been enjoying her upper-middle class life style! From time to time the "parents" send her pictures to us Smile Poor Einstein, he's stuck with us and our working-class social-economic status ... for a while.

Local shelters won't adopt out any dogs and cats unless they have been fixed.
