FOUND: 512mb PC133 Ram for PowerMac G4 450
#11
My quick and dirty google fu didn't yield anything more than noted above. IIRC, those earlier G4 towers came in both 3 and 4 RAM slot configs, and you (obviously) have a 4 slotter. Maybe post something over in T&D, and hopefully the brain trust can provide more exacting info.

Ever since we downsized here ~2016, and I turfed the remaining G4 collection to Harbourmaster, my G4 brain cells have atrophied.... lone G4 in residence is a 14" iBook that has a classic rock CD stuck in it..... if/when I get up the inclination to pop that puppy open and rescue the CD, it'll be gone, too.

Yeah, I have vague recollections of pre-OS X. When I got into Macs, 7.5 was what I started on. I was perusing https://infinitemac.org/1996/System%207.5.3 a couple of months ago and was somewhat lost. I guess it's true that if you don't use it, you lose it.

So, this current G4 PowerMac is actually for my son, who is into nostalgia. He has installed OS 9 (from some of my old software I kept for some reason) and wants to put some old games on it. Unfortunately, I got rid of all of my old ram when we moved a few years ago. And, like a fool, even sold my 17" iLamp on the cheap (even had the round transparent speakers that went with it).

Since OS 9 will only utilize 1.5gb of memory, it may be pointless to max this thing out. Speed's ram will probably be more than enough. Heck, the 512mb currently in the machine will most likely run most games from the OS 9 days!

If you visit L.A., I still have a G3'ed Frankenmac PM7300 that has two UWSCSI drives in it running OS 8.1 & 8.6 respectively y'all can take for a nostalgic spin. It's got max, 1GB, RAM, upgraded CDRW, etc., and a legacy of more bloodied knuckles than I care to remember, but it's my earliest surviving link to the past.

Good luck w/ Speed's RAM. Post your/kid's results!

Late to the party.
Still looking.?
I know all of my personal PC133 big sticks went to upgrade some school computers years ago.
As for the MRF hand me down collection, I don't want to pull from running machines, but I'm pretty sure I know which box has some loose sticks in it and am more than happy to take a look for you. I may have some stuff in the loft in a random box or two, never finished consolidating/reducing.

Haven't forgotten about Espiau's Buzz, just never finished.

Thanks, Pat! Yeah, still haven’t pulled the trigger on the OWC ram yet. I would have taken Speedy up on his offer above, but my son really wants to max out the memory. Let me know what you find when you get around to checking - thanks!

I did find a couple of 256MB PC3200 400MHz sticks, but they're too far beyond Sawtooth capability to make light of. As noted, the G4 machines I passed down thru MRF channels were fully loaded w/ RAM, and included a DP Gig-E model w/ DVD RAM, and Zip drives. You sure picked some tough sticks to search for.

Yeah those 512MB PC133s would have been a bit pricey back in the day. Good luck!
