I had finished my course this past December so in my November visit, after doing the final adjustment, they scanned me for my retainer. But between my November and December visit I cracked a molar nearly dead center right to the root. I could not get the split tooth pulled until after my December visit but the ortho fit the retainer to my teeth and gums, ignoring the split tooth. Later an oral surgeon pulled the tooth, did a bone graft in preparation for an implant and told me to not wear my retainer for ten days so as to not risk damaging the graft. After 10 days I went back to every-night retainer with no issues. If there is a bit of twist in a tooth the retainer will shortly fix it.

Yes. The first day or two might be a little uncomfortable, but that will quickly pass.
