Anyone Paint A kitchen Red?
#11
I have an accent wall red with all other walls a warm yellow.

Make sure the red is in a brick shade and you are all good.

Years ago some friends moved into an old house with tomato soup red walls in the kitchen. Neither one cared for the color but the walls were in good shape. They were tired of painting so they ended up plastering the walls with take-out menus. It looked pretty cool.

Brick Red? I was thinking of 100% Red or PMS 032. But, maybe stepping it down a little darker is safer.

First things first, figure out what shade of blue or green for our bedroom. Smile Our new bedroom set is being delivered next week.

Spacescape,

Go for it. I don't think it will ruin your mornings.

I painted my bedroom using a Ralph Lauren color called "Terracotta Pot" which is sort of a brick red. I was afraid it would be too intense but it's actually very pleasant. I really like it a lot. I left the ceiling white which helps keep the room light.

I used Behr Premium Plus from Home Depot. Less expensive and supposedly equally good. They matched the Ralph Lauren chip with no problem.

The tinted primer took two coats and the color took three coats. As pointed out above, red doesn't cover too well. It looked pretty uneven after the second coat, but it turned out fine. It looks very rich and deep.

accent wall is key. it shouldn't overpower. after years of living w/ the bathroom a mixture of grey and beige, we had it repainted last year w/ an in-your-face orange accent wall, and couldn't be happier. Baby Buzz has much "Mickey's Red Pants Red" accenting his Mickey themed room. and the leftover paint accented the kitchen, and was on the door next to it until last year. I liked the red accents kitchenside, but am glad the old bathroom drab is history. another vote to let her have the wall.

A friend of mine has a red kitchen with black cabinets. Lipstick red, none of your wussy off-red shades. It looks great.

No.
I've painted the Town red.

Once bought a house with master bedroom panelled dark brown (the 4'x8' stuff)
Painted it white, gloss.
Too bright, so I painted the white ceiling midnight/dark blue.
Then spent the whole winter painting all the constellations as they would be outside looking up at midnight. Horizon to horizon.

this is a good thread. i'll have to start my own, though, since i have a bunch of questions and don't want to be a hiajcker. BUT, i will ask what people think about red as an accent only color as a lower wall paint, like below a chair rail. i'm trying to liven up a really dead "living" room (pun intended).

Behr's explore color app is pretty decent for getting ideas http://www.behr.com/behrx/index.jsp. Just don't fully trust the colors based on your screen.
