I've been summoned maybe five or six times, went to the courthouse a couple or three times, and never once invited to go to a courtroom. Total waste of my time. Everybody else except the potential jurors was getting paid for being there. The litigants wait until the day of trial to reach a settlement. There should be an automatic penalty for that, with the proceeds going to the jurors.

It’s your civic duty and 11th hour settlements are simply part of the process.

Maybe they should have a settlement deadline - like 5PM the day before. It may be a civic duty, but having a ton of people sit in a crappy room all day to not be called is a waste of time.
