re-powder coating
#11
VHT started to make some brake parts paint recently. 900F and is supposed to be impervious to the average brake parts cleaners. very limited colors, but it might even paint over the powdercoat.

I love their engine enamel, but it isn't terribly solvent resistant.

Oh, and I have several cans of their "Night Shades" lens paint that was called "The Shadow" back when it was first introduced about 18 years ago.

Gotcha-
two-piece jobbies.
I just pictured you leaving the car show after showing off your shiny new brake rotors and not being able to stop and driving into a fuel tanker…

What did ya think of the nightshades paint?

I had blackouts on my 96' and had folks say it was hard to see my brake lights in the daylight.(so I went back to stock)

I've considered it on my 2000..
but going with the 2 piece brakes and stainless lines right now.

Yes, powdercoating the entire rotor would not be the safe thing to do.

You can, however, spray paint the entire rotor.. the first few times you apply the brakes the paint in the firepath of the pad will be easily scraped away without fouling the pad.

Found out its anodized aluminum.. so must be dyed black after the process.

Easy Off oven cleaner has cooked 85% of it off.

The original "The Shadow" was too dark according to the NTSB/DOT/Whoever, so it was pulled, and brought back as "NightShades" I just still have a few cans of the old stuff. I was thinking about blacking out the tail lights and satin black powdercoating my bumpers on my little GS350 about 15 years ago for a complete triple black car. In retrospect, I sure am glad I didn't. Good tail light lenses are damn hard to find for them these days.

Great that oven cleaner is working. Hot Tank in a Can is what I call it. Strips undercoating and paint of suspension parts like a charm. Also, if you have concrete, it will get most if not all of an oil stain out, if you give it time. Will completely destroy asphalt though.

Will you send me a PM when you come up with a coating solution? My brake parts show through my Buick rallye wheels, and most stuff will either burn off, or will come off with brake cleaners.

Here is my project.

This is a 2nd set of Baer Eradispeed (+2 for rear, +1 for fronts)

I will probably need to beed blast the hats to finish removing the paint and preping the surface. Then I will go with a gloss black powdercoat on the aluminum rears (think the fronts might be steel) - I wont know till I get a Triwing bit tomorow at Sears and remove the hats.

Keep ya posted
