Forget premissions repair - did you perform a backup before updating to 10.5.3?

On the list of reasons to have regular backups, updates aren't real high on the list. But did onthedownlow admit he never backs up?

"I don't backup, no worries".

He's got bigger problems than updates.

When the HD on his "champ" MBP, ibook, or his old G5 seizes up and dies, I hope he doesn't come here crying, looking for help. LOL

I perform a backup at least once a day; full clone via SuperDuper.

I'll wait a few days before going to .3 and see what you guys are saying. And I'm patiently waiting for the "10.5.3 killed my USB Scale used to proof b&w ad copy!" posts.

I don't have a 'list', but running a 500mb update on my main system is a damn good reason to get your backup up to date. Can't fig why you're so nit-picky...

Prediction....

You will never find a thread this lighthearted regarding OS updating on a VISTA forum.

...and most of those posts will begin with: OMFG!! or WTF Happened??

You recommend doing a different kind of backup than I do every day, anyway? An "extra extra" backup?
Amen brother.

Ironically enough, XP SP3 isn't so bad. Its evolutionary, not revolutionary.

Routinely b/u before any sys updates. Repair before and after. Paranoid OCD.

The default assumption here is that forum members back up regularly, religiously, as a habit (I know I do, like many here, having learned the hard way long ago) so an extra-special backup for an update seems redundant. Those who "make sure and back up" before an update are revealing that they aren't already backed up and ready to go, or haven't recently backed up. This concept is foreign to me. Thus the friendly hazing.

Besides automatic TM hourly backups, my macs do scheduled backups nightly, weekly, monthly, etc., to redundant media. I don't consider this OCD, I consider it normal computing habits. Now that storage is increasingly cheap and abundant, everybody can easily maintain the habit. I guess I was too optimistic in assuming most members here are already backed up?

Actually it is if you have an AMD processor. Some AMD machines weren't even able to boot after the SP3 update. It was a fairly simple fix but still.

Is a combo update to 10.5.3 preferred over the incremental update?
