New iMacs arriving in broken condition
#11
The correct method for packaging an LCD is to have the panel floating in the middle with air around it and the supports be on the outside corners.

And this is exactly how Apple packages the iMacs. The Apple box was fairly stout, so even though there was a gash in it, nothing reached the screen. It was poorly packed in a much larger box by Amazon or their fulfillment center.

When I my MDD from Apple, it came in a sturdy box that was in an slip-fit plain brown wrapper-box. This made for pretty sturdy shipping. FedEx, no scuffs, scrapes, or gouges.

On a different tangent, I just got my Magic Mouse. It came in a very plain cardboard box with a plastic case. Not the unboxing experience I've come to expect. This is more like a refurb.

I recently sold a McIntosh HiFi Tuner, the guy didn't want anything touching the glass. It was
being shipped directly to the factory for a tune up. That was tough trying figure out a way
ship it so that it wouldn't slide forward yet not touch the glass. I managed to do it but it wasn't
easy. I don't normally take pictures of our items during packaging but the guy was being such
a bu!! about all these details yet I had to file a non-paying bidder notice on him to get him to
pay, I so if someone gives us a lot grief during the transaction we now photograph the process.
I have about 16 photos of packaging process. There was a very narrow aluminum bar on each
corner that was just enough to make a small styrofoam corner block to slide in place. I guess
it made it okay, never got feedback, an email or any correspondence out of the guy, needless to
say he's been blocked.
