Good toolbar for Safari?

You run Yahoo and Google toolbars simultaneously? I would suggest you avoid this behavior.

I see this all the time with people's PCs.
Evidently, the Java installer (and updater) installs the Yahoo toolbar by default if you don't catch it.
I've installed it myself once or twice.

I agree 100%. Many installers bundle browser toolbars and nearly everytime I have to debug someone's Windows install, one of the issues is the toolbar war being waged in their browser. Sigh

What's a "Mactel"?

I remember. Isn't that what we called Intel-powered Apple computers during that period right after the Apple Intel partnership was announced, but disappeared completely the moment Apple introduced their product (MacBook, MacBook Pro) names?

Ah, the good old days...

But that definition doesn't work in this context "but the Mactel for my mac I downloaded is wimpy"

I still have no idea what this is referring to.

Thanks...I guess that is another thing I'll have to do without on the Macbook. I don't like the Bookmark system which isn't like the old system....either.

SO, you want to search another search site from the search box in the upper right of Safari?
And you don't like how bookmarks are stored in Safari? (Menu and/or toolbar favorites).

Sounds like maybe you should try Firefox.

OR you could expound a bit more on what this magic PC toolbar DOES for those of us who refuse to put up with WIndows sh!t, and don't actually know what you're feeling the lack OF in Safari.

All;

Googling for "Mactel toolbar" I found a reference to a toolbar add-on program. Also not clear on what it's supposed to DO, but at least I figured out it was a browser GUI augmentation of some sort.

toolbars for Windows typically grind down performance to a crawl - Google toolbar, Yahoo toolbar, etc.

read this:
http://www.ghacks.net/2010/04/10/microso...rformance/

Add-ons attribute to more than 70% of all Internet Explorer 8 crashes, a figure that seems incredibly high. Microsoft explains the different ways add-ons are installed in Internet Explorer (for instance through software installations) and details how add-ons can be removed to speed up the web browser.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windo...on-so-slow

Browser add-ons also cause performance problems. Browser add-ons are programs, such as multimedia add-ons, search bars, or other programs that usually appear on your browser's toolbar. Many browser add-ons can add to a rich browsing experience, offering multimedia or specialized document viewing. However, some add-ons can slow your Internet connection. If you suspect that add-ons are causing slow performance, try starting Internet Explorer in Add-ons disabled mode. Add-ons are disabled only for the session, but if you find your performance improves, you can use Manage Add-ons to turn them off permanently. To access Manage Add-ons from Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Manage Add-ons. For more information, see How do browser add-ons affect my computer?
