Since zombies are too dumb to swim, I'll take a moderate sized sailing vessel crewed by tall leggy redheads and just island hop to uninhibited islands. No need to kill em, or live in constant fear.
Poll: you must pick ONE item for the zombie apocalypse

Arch,
They don't swim. They float or or drop to the bottom and walk to a destination, regardless of whether or not it knows it's heading to a destination. ![]() Robert

If one gun and 4000 bullets counts as "one item," then I pick a 50' catamaran outfitted for blue water cruising. See ya, suckers!

Anyone else seen "The Colony."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Colony_...TV_series) Silly but fun reality show (for the kind of people who think about zombie apocalypses). I watched a couple seasons on Netflix. No actual zombies and limited violence, but the premise is about a small group of people surviving after collapse of civilization. People need to find food, water, shelter, power, etc. Fun stuff. As for my one thing, maybe something like... ![]()

FWIW, the discussion about caliber is relevant. If it takes the destruction of the hindbrain to kill the Zombie, then a widdly little .22 requires major precision . Even a .223 requires a lot of precision. Remember... the .223 is designed to WOUND, not kill.
Yes, wound. It's designed to remove three people from the battlefield for every hit. One wounded person, two to carry him off. For full on damage, "any caliber that starts with .4", like Dad's .44 Mag super Blackhawk (although a .38 plus P would suffice in one of the long barrelled.38's... hollowpoints or Glasers). Dad's old coped deer rifle with 30-.06 will work, again hollow points. My brace of 20 gauge shotguns will work if I use deer slugs.

cbelt,
I think something that must be taken into consideration is the availability of ammo. Lots and lots of .223 out there! Same goes for .22. 'course, outside of the US, an AK-47 or SKS and 7.62x39 ammo will be plentiful to the extreme. Robert

Robert is correct...
The SECOND most plentiful round on earth (right after 7.62x39 Russian) is .223/5.56... Anyone who can't find a large supply after the zombie apocalypse, well, they're just not trying very hard. Also, the .223 is MORE than adequate for brain stem removal from pretty much any angle with MODERN projectiles. As originally designed with the puny 55 grain bullet and 1-12" barrel twist, no so much. Modern rifles use a 1-9", 1-8" or even 1-7.75" twist rate (well, if you want to fire Sierra 90gr Matchkings, even a 1-6.5" twist, but that's a highly specialized oddball combination... they look more like a copper arrow than a bullet). Suppressed .22 for "close in", and .223 Suppressed for "longer out" is still my choice. |
