You would do anything to defend Apple in this case.
Fact: they take the responsibility. It was Apple who made the choices they made, and then sell the results to me.

I believe the return policy is usually 90 days no? If so, you would still have time to return it if the battery arrives in 4 -6 weeks like they told you. Possibly a balance of that and Michael's suggestion of using it only when necessary may work. One may have to give a little ground on this one in order to avoid an aneurysm caused by anger.

If it makes you feel any better (or like Apple any more), the Dell battery recall has a 20 business day turn-around for their batteries. Some of the batteries are 30 busines days.
I work at a place with about 20 Dell laptops that were affected.
Yes, it is a pain in the butt to be without a battery for that long. No one is forcing you to go without, though. You can risk it if you want. Apple doesn't make the batteries. Neither does Dell. They are *all* waiting on Sony.

That's 4 weeks. That's the *minimum* time Apple is quoting. It's actually 4-6 weeks, maybe longer. That's what they're saying.
Here's to hoping they subscribe to the theory of "underpromise and overdeliver".

I can't risk it. Sure, no one is "forcing* me. However, Apple has made it clear: if I use it, it's at my own risk. Those with families will understand.

I am disgruntled that the recall web site doesn't work.
But honestly, I don't think it makes sense to get your knickers in a knot that Apple can't magically replace the battery as fast as you would like.
It is beginning to sound like you think that Apple should have gotten enough batteries in place and THEN announced the recall. So that instead of waiting 4 to 6 weeks for the replacement, you could have used the battery for an additional 4 to 6 weeks in ignorant bliss. Which would certainly be the option I would have chosen, knowing how much people like to bitch. Damn the morality of it. :-D

And here I was hoping that my battery was part of the recall. The reason I was hoping my battery was part of the recall is because when mine was about two years old, maybe a little less, it began to only hold a charge for about 45 minutes. I had to buy a replacement battery, Newer Tech not another Apple.
I will be happy to send anyone the old 45 minute battery today if they will send me their new one when it arrives. I doubt I will get anyone to take me up on my offer.

Not quite--but how long HAVE they known about this? How long have the customers already been in said "ignorant bliss"? At what point in the cycle did they announce the problem?
And are the batteries available or nearly available? To what degree is the fulfilment method the chokehold, if any? If it is, could Apple have removed the chokehold or lessened its impact by involving the retail stores?
