But 14 days is “harsh” in the Huffman case...
$30,000 fine. A ‘firm’ slap on the wrist.
She’s worth $20 million and her husband is worth $45 million.
At that point, my take wasn't that Huffman wasn't punished enough, but that the homeless woman was punished far, far too severely. So treating Huffman similarly just isn't appropriate.
The homeless woman was also sentenced to those same five years for selling crack cocaine to an undercover cop during her kid’s birthday party so don’t shed too many tears for her.
Then I see this and my sense of injustice and sympathy are mitigated somewhat.

Double standard. Wealthy & celebs get bail and light punishment.
e.g. Roman Polanski pled guilty in a sex abuse case in 1978 and then fled the
US before sentencing. So why do the Hollywood elite still embrace him?

No mitigation for me. Mom was dealing to make ends meet.

Greased somebody to get her kid in college? Why is that a big deal? I do not know the details. I haven't paid attention but I like her as an actor.

No, not the ‘same five years’, that is incorrect. Separate case, charge and sentences.
”Police investigated McDowell and charged her with fraud. A year later she pleaded guilty to first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny; for these offenses, she received a five-year sentence. Before McDowell started serving it out, she was charged with selling narcotics to an undercover police officer, an offense that killed her community support. McDowell was ultimately given 12 years, to be suspended after she served five, and followed by five years of probation; the narcotic sentence to run concurrently with a five-year sentence she had already received in the Norwalk school case.”
Don’t shed too many tears for her?
A woman living in poverty; out of her vehicle at one point. Still had the constitutional wherewithal to maintain some sense of concern for her child and his future, trying to get him even a decent basic education so maybe he’d escape the cycle she hasn’t been able to pull out of. Yeah, she’s made ignorant choices in trying to survive. I bet with some guidance and, say, $275,000, she’d have a damn good shot at turning her life around. But save your tears.
$275,000. That’s what Huffman is paid to make one episode of her show.
On the other hand we have, a woman coming from a family worth tens of millions of dollars, who still feels so entitled that she throws thousands of dollars at cheating to get her already privileged daughter bumped ahead in the line over other kids.

Too glib for Polanski. We’re talking about charges of raping a 13 year old girl. The best plea bargain he could get was “unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor”. A 13 year old girl by a 44 year old man.
That’s not ladies love the bad boys. That’s some ugly mix of self interest and elitism and greed and I don’t know what all else.

The ends justify the means? Selling crack is ok because she's just trying to make ends meet?
So sometimes double standards are OK?
Is she selling crack to upscale addicts who come from privilege, so it's ok? Or is she selling to 'poverty stricken' users who have no real chance at living a productive, fruitful life, so that's ok?
Addicts choose to be addicts, so they aren't really victims, and at worst, a dealer is merely an enabler, just trying to make ends meet?
Maybe you don't have a son or daughter addicted to crack or any drug for that matter, or don't know some has a child (of any age) who is. I don't, but I've seen plenty who are.
It sometimes can be too easy to dismiss them as 'druggies' or some other convenient, dismissive word, but they are or were somebody's son, daughter, mother, father, sister, or brother.
Dealing is dealing, and I don't abide.

All we gotta sell is the last of our crack cocaine and we're out. One last score. Then we can start doing some good. Somebody is gonna sell 'em some crack. One and done. We out.

Nobody’s arguing that she’s an upstanding citizen or that she shouldn’t be sentenced for selling crack.
The point is the five year fraud sentence versus the two week sentence for Huffman.
