Brother L2700DW: Duplex Now Too Complex

I have a 5ghz band and a 2.4ghz band broadcasting from my router. Airprint only works if the device (computer, iphone, or ipad) are on the same band.

I don't think this is the case. My L2700DW is right next to the router, so it's connected via Ethernet and isn't on any WiFi network. AirPrint to that printer from my iPhone over WiFi works fine.
i'll check later today for the 2700 ethernet port and give it a shot. i do know for sure that for total wifi the device and the printer have to be on the same network band.

again, i do have wifi connection; the 2700 will print single pages just not duplex. that leads me to think it is an internal malfunction for duplexing not the overall connection to the devices sending data. we'll see.

Did you try to print from another computer?

i have gotten as far as connecting the ethernet port on the 2700 then realized i have to take it off the wifi network to see if it's using the ethernet. another possible hitch is that i think that remaining ethernet port is may not be working so i need to wait until a time i can muck around with ethernet ports. other things on the table at the moment.

You might go into the printer settings web page and see if something's amok. I believe you can turn off duplex capabilities in there, which override settings from print jobs sent to it.
