These kids are going to end up abused in foster homes.
WTF? Can you explain this comment?
I have heard many many many tales of abuse in foster care.
How is this a "WTF"? Can you explain "WTF?"
Those tales are the exception, and get the wide coverage because they are the exception. I have heard of many tales of foster children who got care, love, and protection in the foster families they were placed in. Is foster care perfect? No, but can care in the original family setting be always characterized as perfect either?

Maybe Pops wants you to put your second-hand anecdotal stories and assumptions that go with them up against his first person real life experiences and the understanding that goes with it.
But then maybe he's doesn't and I'm just projecting.

That would be an interesting diagram to see
Maybe they will have a touring exhibit including such a diagram, along with actual specimens from the big catch.
It's one thing to be an Internet douche bag. It's quite another thing to be a raped minor in a fundamentalist camp. Instead of your silly queen opinions, why don’t you speak to the data? Do you think patriarchal religions have free reign to rape female children? Douche Bag!
As far as it being commonplace to rape children in the rest of the world so we're out of line preventing it here...I just don't know where to start.
Max, you're kind of a fat, idiot pig living in Texas, so your objection to preventing 13 year olds from having sex is duly noted. Maybe Bush can use you post-office in Texas. I'm guessing you sweat grease and I'm pretty sure that's not what 13 year olds are attracted to. Keep trying though you bloated pig.

Yeah, that was kinda the issue. I know that the "I have heard many many many tales..." tends to drive some people in their intellectual pursuit of facts. Just wanted to re-establish that no factual or verifiable information was involved in BL's post.

[quote Black Landlord]I am having a hard time seeing what your summary has to do with my personal objection to the way this is being handled. Not much into the "debate for debate's sake" thing at the moment-- bait someone else.
BL, it's not even clear where you got the idea I was addressing your concerns in the first place. The first time around, I was engaging the issue in general, not your comments in particular, or your objections in particular
"Where are you getting this? It's got nothing to do with my objections."
I agree, and again, I wasn't responding to your specific objections in the first place. I was just making general observations about the "injustice of the Texas Authorities" and alleged civil rights abuses of the state. If my first post seem aimed at your comments, you misread it, and were taking bait from someone else's plate. Put it back! I have better stuff for YOUR plate!

...but to clarify, yes, I agree with BL that Foster care has a troubling record. I don't have any statistics either, but there have been enough high-profile stories of Foster Care abuses to make a disturbing impact. How well Foster care providers have responded to these concerns (reforming the process, isolating and prosecuting abusers in the system) remains to be seen, but yeah, Foster care is far from perfect, and in some cases, is horrific. I don't think this qualifies as an overall indictment of the whole Foster Care system. While it's a valid thing to be concerned about, I don't think it's a valid objection.
Unless someone has evidence to suggest otherwise, Foster Care abusers are still the the exception, not the rule. There are abuses in every system or agency empowered to give support or care. Foster care is probably no better or worse in this respect than any other care-giving agency or system. Either way, it's not enough of a reason to prevent Texas Authorities from doing its job, and for case workers and courts to use the system available to it.
I wonder if the Foster families will let the kids wear normal clothes from the Gap, K-Mart, and Old Navy, instead of having those "Little House on the Prairie" clothes. And get to have Kelloggs cereal, and watch TV, like other kids. Sounds to me like life in Foster care might not be the worst thing to happen to these kids, by a long shot. They'll finally get to see Walt Disney movies, attend normal neighborhood schools, and find out who Hannah Montana is. Once they get a taste of life outside the "compound", they might not be in a hurry to go back?

Thats exactly part of the problem. People get kicked out of all they know if they so much as watch tv or read a newspaper.

That and the fact that seventeen year olds have babies meaning they had sex at 16 (it's a human gestation thing) at the very best. The data is on the table. I'm not sure how anyone can rightfully argue against action.
I couldn't give a rats ass what people wear. But, I have children and I want this country's statutory rape laws upheld...with vigor and malice if needed. Fuck you if you want to have sex with a kid. I don't care what religion you are, what you wear, or the fact that you are one of a hundred thousand redneck, dumbfuck Texans.

Duck, I'm sure your own region has a least a "hundred thousand redneck dumbfuck" residents, if I were you, I'd be concerned more about than your own screwed up perceptions than what color someone else's neck is. Who knows, you might be just another one of a hundred thousand ignorant dumbfucks in your own state. On behalf of the residents of Texas, we don't give a rats ass what you think about vigor, malice, religion, or clothing choices. Just keep your bigoted, arrogant regional attitudes between you and your own kids, I'm sure they'll benefit from your good example.

Uh, chief, you're the one defending a group admittedly guilty of pedophelia. At the risk of seeming obtuse, what can't you wrap your little Texas brain around?
