And I'm flying out of Barcelona in three weeks...
Well, you won't be flying with that guy.

French prosecutor in presser: German co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, age 28, deliberately flew the plane into the ground. No accident, no illness. Voluntary. Deliberate.

"We don’t know yet the reason why one of the guys went out,” uhhhhh, cockpits do NOT have lavatories. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go. In a commercial aircraft, that means leaving the cockpit.
If a pilot is suicidal but appears "normal", there's really no way to stop him (her). If they choose to kill themself while flying, they'll be taking everyone onboard with them.
If any means of access is allowed from the main cabin, hijackers would find and exploit it so, to be totally secure, the only way to open the cockpit door must be controlled from inside the cockpit.
Most flight crew members are dedicated and reliable professionals. Suicide is extremely rare.
Condolences to the family and coworkers of all the innocent souls who were killed.

Wonder what the financial impact will be if the initial theory (willful act by an employee) holds?
Europe vs. U.S.?

This is just... wow. Wow.
And what will be the new reaction to that ?
Weekly psych evals ?
(FWIW... nuclear power plant operators, certain military personnel, and other high risk workers go through periodic psych evals for that reason...)

I suspect that the Europeans may now want to adopt the American rule of a staff member entering the cockpit if one of the pilots has to step out.
