Buy local !
Local electrical repair shop rebuilt alternator for boat I’m working on.
Two thirds the cost of buying Chinese one from Bezosville and no addition to landfill.

i didn't spend a dime today.
maybe it means/meant nothing.
maybe it's nothing more than needing to be reminded that i/we DO have choices and choices DO have consequences.
thumbs up.

I slipped up and bought a 110v duplex socket at Lowe’s ($2.65+tax).

I had a wonderful lunch at a local family-owned/operated Thai restaurant. That was my one purchase for the day.
So, yeah, virtuous and all that, but self-serving, too.

Hi everyone,
Gotta say... I believe my assessment proved incorrect. It wasn't meaningless entirely. It was a blip that was noticed a bit by the media that made its way on social media for a brief amount of time. Unfortunately, a blip that is barely noticed doesn't do anything at all.
If people want to make a statement - even one that says "As a group, we have power!" - they have to do something with a tangible impact. Skipping purchases for a day doesn't cut it. It just means you'll have to make those same purchases the day(s) before or the day(s) after. You still need to make the purchases. That and missing a days worth of purchases isn't going to effect the bottom line of most business.
Want to do something that makes an impact? You need to do something that impacts an entire quarter's worth of profit. Here is an example, for the sake of easy calculation. If a company that normally makes $300,000.00 in sales for a month all of a sudden sees just, say, $25,000.00 in sales? That's tangible. $900,000.00 in sales for a quarter becomes $75,000.00 in sales for the quarter? That's more than just tangible. You get the idea.
You have to do the same thing to politicians. Make them feel the pain otherwise they aren't going to notice and/or do squat.

We did the No Shopping thing but bought food. It's obviously symbolic and performative and doesn't have much effect on the economy, but if enough people were to do it, it would be noticed by the elected officials, particularly those on the recessionary side.
