[quote Webster J. Duck]Uh, chief, you're the one defending a group admittedly guilty of pedophelia. At the risk of seeming obtuse, what can't you wrap your little Texas brain around?
I'm defending hundreds of thousands of law abiding Texans, you jackass.

Quote for the simple Texans amongst us (you did elect George after all):
"mothers under 18 "
See that there's statutory rape, ahem. We has them ther laws so's I can sens my chilren to school without worrying that someone will redefine the legal age and pray to the almighty spaghetti monster, dress up like a picture from Silver Dollar City, Pray to the God of Tron or whatever rationalization they want so's they can gratify their sinful lust.
What part of statutory rape does you simian brain not want to grasp. OR are you justifying it?

Hey, I just read this thread and realized it was Max's comments I disagreed with.
Oops. I still crack myself up anyway.
And I still can't stand Texas dumbasses. Sorry Guitarist.

I have heard many many many tales of abuse/neglect/murder by biological parents. Perhaps we need a "waiting period" before you can take your progeny home with you.

Got news for ya, Duck. When it comes to dumbasses, criminals, and religious nuts, Texas doesn't exactly have the corner on the market. In case you haven't looked around, your state's got 'em too. They all do. Texas also has a sizable percentage of the nation's innovation, wealth, energy, and brainpower. I'm sure your state does, too. It balances out pretty well. People routinely say ignorant, bigoted things about states and regions they don't know anything about. Welcome to the club!

How is this a "WTF"? Can you explain "WTF?"
So "tales of abuse in foster care" are the stuff a rightful stance is made of.
But "tales of abuse" in that compound are not worthy of consideration.
Uh huh.

I think it is reasonable to wonder if foster care is any better for the kids:

There's evidence on every level in existence that foster care is less than awesome. I personally have seen a lot of general mean-ness, even in fairly decent foster care situations. It isn't even close to prosecutable abuse, but it's still heartbreaking because the foster parent just doesn't care like a real or adoptive parent would. It's too bad foster care is often the only alternative. kj.

Yes, foster care can be "less than awesome". But the first thing I see going through the two reports you link to are examples of selective statistics. The first specifically took out of his sample clear cut cases; and who determines which of the remaining cases "could go either way"? Starting in the second, the reports uses statistics comparing to the general population, but as far as I can tell going through the citations, never compared them against the statistics for children who remained in the abusive or neglectful family. There may be problems, but finding what they are and correcting will not come from this sort of one step better than anecdotal report and studies.

I think they need to do more experimentation, lol. There's only so much you can do when researching such complex questions. It's not going to be like a physics experiment. kj.

Fortunately we have close to 500 new subjects to experiment with.
