Do you remember where you were on this date in 1986?

In the third grade. After morning recess, our teacher came in crying and told us that the Challenger was lost. I didn't really get it until I went home that afternoon.

I was working in the art department of a business form printer, I'd only been there about 6-months at the time. Was walking through the plant area with all the web presses running when somebody said the shuttle blew up, so those of us that weren't running presses, etc. went into the plant managers office and turned on the TV to CNN and there it was. I remember when they were installing the cable TV in the plant manager's office thinking "why the heck does he need a TV and cable?", I'm glad he had it. I still find it difficult to watch a shuttle launch and get chills every time I hear "go at throttle up".

First year teaching middle school, near Santa Cruz...thanking myself for opting not to show the launch live.

Advanced Biology Class. We had the TV on the big roller cart watching the event live.

I was at Ft. Eustis, VA going through AIT. One of our instructors came out of his office and told us.

We were cross country skiing on Long Island, NY. Yes, we heard a muffled boom right about the time of the disaster. Maybe it was just a coincidence; maybe winter weather conditions were just right that a sonic boom could be heard 1000+ miles away. We were shocked when we got home and learned what had happened.

I was in grad school and didn't find out about the Challenger until I got out of class that day. The computer manager had a TV on in the computer room and we watched the coverage.

I also remember when I heard about the Apollo 1 fire, listening to the radio in our living room. We were living in Japan then so it was the next day there.

At home getting up from sleeping. I worked 3rd shift as a computer operator, and turned on the TV after I woke up. Just to check the weather report, instead I turned it on just as one of the many replays showed it exploding.
