Epson Stylus Pro 3800 Printer after rebate at J&R with free shipping.
Was $1295, reduced to 1099 - $300 rebate = $799.

Or should I consider the 3800's new successor, the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 ($1174 @ Amazon) ?

The 3800 was introduced about three years ago. Will ink & support be available for the 3800 for the next 3-4 years?
I asked about the 3800 in a previous thread:

the higher end stuff usually has slower replacement cycles, and has longer useable life, and are supported better. When X hit the shelves, many of the pro-level printers had drivers ready to go. the consumer stuff was real spotty for quite a while. (for example)

adorama has the 4880 for $1750 minus $500 and $350 rebates = $913 for the standard edition and $1050 for the ultrachrome version (with free shipping which saves a bundle of $$$)
i think the old thread summed it up nicely

That's a great price. The 4880 takes larger ink cartridges and roll paper.

The 4880 is also a big, heavy and heavy-duty printer compared to the
3800/3880. Depends on your priorities. I have a 3800 in my home studio, but use a 4800 here at work.
