How Long Can You Survive With What You Have?
#11
I know people don't want to read this but I would do whatever I could to feed the family. Lots of rabbits, pheasant, squirrels running around here.

If it meant the difference between life and death; there would be a lot of critters on the evening fire.

I have two plastic garbage cans full of earthquake supplies (including camping stoves and fuel) that would keep me and the family a couple of weeks. Also, we have lots of deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, etc in the neighborhood. No gun, but I could pull out my old bow and arrow and try my hand at that (not sure I could bring down a deer with my target arrows, though they're so docile I could probably sneak up and club one).

Yeah, but the pigeons are nice and plump.

with electricity or without? I suspect that the beef in my freezer would stay mostly frozen for a day or two, but after that it would start to stink up the place. Can I forage the nearby farms and orchards? Fortunately, I live in an area that supplies much of the world's produce. We also produce hops for beer, and grapes for wine. We're also heavily armed and there is a large military base north of us. If we can keep all the peaceniks from Seattle out we could collectively last for a long time. If it breaks down to lawlessness and disorder, I'll need some more ammo.

Lemme just be the first to recommend to everyone with their frozen meat - fire up the grill or smoker, get some wood chips and start smoking it. You'll get some extra life out of the meat.

A LONG time if there is power - the freezer is full, we have a huge pantry. We do have a generator, so we could make the freezer stretch a while.

There are enough deer in our yard that we wouln't starve - EVER - fish in the straits as well.

I don't have enough wine. That's a problem.
