Cash for Clunkers = FAIL
#11
Dak, I don't think Harbourmaster was implying the overall program was a failure, but rather the specific examples pointed out as being 'failures' on the parts of the individuals involved.

Yes, because a car was turned in does not mean it was junked. There have already been stories about people seeing the cars they turned in, back on the road. It is free money for a dealership if they can get $10,000 for a car instead of junking it,

I am not sure an Excalibur or a BMW 850i are worth a whole lot more than $4,500 unless they have low miles. I saw an early 90's BMW 850i for about $6,000 about two years ago.

This post is neither a Tip or a Deal. It belongs on the other side.

Maybe those cars suffered water damage from Katrina or something. They could have been in horrible condition.

What Mactel said.

Neither a model year or the story are indicative of any of the vehicle's condition.

And somebody could have turned in a "clunker" that was instead diverted to a private buyer for resale *instead* of going in to the clunker program.

How would somebody get a "less than a year old car" into the system?

Move all the non-Tip and non-Deal posts over to the "other side" and the chirping crickets will take over this one.

Boy, if we stuck to that standard this side would be pretty bare . . .
