Do you remember where you were on this date in 1986?

Working ... I was in my 10th year with the Board of Education. The boss probably had a TV in his office but I don't remember that it was on so I think that I heard on the evening news. I remember the images but I sure don't remember exactly where I was when I heard.

Now Kennedy being shot ... I remember that really well (college).

I was stationed at Griffiss AFB in New York. We had no televisions in the building I worked in, so I didn't see this until I went home.

I had just gotten cash from the ATM at the Seafirst Bank on 6th Avenue in Tacoma. Got in the car and heard it on the radio.

I was in 5th grade. Our 5th grade teacher was one of the last 100 teachers in the selection process to be on the shuttle. I think that he called off work the next day and spent the entire day hugging his wife and kids.

...teaching an English class in Cape May, NJ. Gathered the troops and headed to the chemistry lab where my friend, the instructor, had set up a tv. We watched the whole thing and when the bell rang to change classes, nobody moved. The principal came on the PA and announced what had happened.

Classes changed for the rest of the day, but most folks were glued to a tv somewhere in the building.

A sad day.

Working on a range tracking system for NASA. We got the news in the office very very quickly. We pretty much didn't get any work done that day. I sat down at the drafting board and turned out a copy of the Challenger shoulder patch with an in memoriam statement surrounding it. Had it on the wall for years.

My school was closed for a snow day. I was a sophomore in HS and shopping with my Mom in a local home improvement center in Menlo Park, NJ that has since gone bankrupt when the radio station that was being piped through the store's PA system made the announcement.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I got home and turned on the TV. The explosion was played over and over on the network news channels.
