keep the geese away

we have a ton of geese in the pond behind our house. consequently we have a ton of geese poop everywhere. is there something that we can put on or around the immediate area behind our house to keep them away?

At a golf course near our house they use a border collie to chase the geese away. She never barks and doesn't hurt the geese, but they take off if they see her coming and over time pretty much don't come back much. She also knows not to chase mallards or other birds, just those pesky Canadians.
May not be practical for you, but I've seen it work!

I knew someone who had the same problem animal control gave him a case so shotgun shells that fired a cherry bomb type of explosive, they flew away but soon came back. Good luck!

FWIW there are folks who contract out their Aussie Shepherds and other instinctive herders to people/institutions w/your problem; seems the dogs are *very* protective and territorial and will refuse to let the geese land. http://www.geesewranglersllc.com/wranglers.htm
