I guess I'm in the minority, I've just never had a problem with rice. Also, probably because we live in such a small space, I tend to shy away from one use appliances.
That said, it's good to know they work so well for so many people. Kate

Cook rice
1.5 ratio of liquid to white rice add salt and butter if you like Dump liquid onto pot and bring to boil Stir in rice and cover pan lower heat to low and cook 25 to 30 minutes. 5 minute before done fluff rice with fork For brown rice change ratio to 2 of liquid to 1 of rice Cook as above but for one hour. Some times I will brown the rice in a fry pan and add chicken stock instead of water, maybe throw in some minced sauteed onions I use the same pot for a lot of other things. It is My pop corn popper. I don't have cabinet space for all the gadgets.

Old hippie dawgs well confess to cooking brown rice in anything that holds water. It really is a piece of cake. The 2cups of water to1cup of rice recipe is correct for brown rice. I use a little less water to get a more chewy consistency. That said I have 2 rice cookers, 1 large, 1 small I use them for many things other than rice and of course the pots are useable on the stove. I have found rice cookers to be convenient.
I started eating brown rice cooked in any old pot in the mid "60's". Me loves my brown rice *(:>* Rudie

If you only eat rice occasionally, and perhaps as a side dish, then, sure, maybe you don't need or want a rice cooker. But in a vegetarian household, brown rice or other grain is the foundation of a lot of meals, and the wonderful rice cooker is a time-saving, stress-reducing, sanity-preserving device. Doubly or trebly so if there are small children vying for the cook's attention along with the always-present work deadlines.
I still love and use my rice cooker even now that my kids are grown, just not as often, because a batch of rice and lentils will last me for several days. Still, that's 45 to 55 minutes I'm not minding a pot on a burner. Oh my yes.

I use 2 : 1 for Basmati. Add water + rice and a little butter, close lid, switch on and wait. When cooked my rice cooker goes into keep warm mode, wouldn't be without it.

....use chicken stock (or beef stock or vegetable stock) instead of water.....you can also use coconut milk.....raisins.....nuts.....chopped almonds.....chopped garlic.....etc....you get the picture....
