If I owned a lawn I'd likely be the obnoxious neighbor that let's it grow wild - which is not to say that it would be uncared for, just that I wouldn't invest time and resources in a vast green expanse that was only visited by lawn care equipment.

I like mowing; I hate exercising for its own sake, but don't mind if I have the sense I'm actually accomplishing something. Been mowing since I was 10 or so. Nowadays all I have is a 22" push mower, but that gets me out mowing for half an hour at a time, maybe three times a week (separate yards) this time of year.
Lawns are good for kids to play on. My daughter and her husband bought a house in the woods, and don't have a lawn, which she regrets. On the other hand, they have trees, mud, and a zip line.
Some of our lawn area is being overtaken by violets, which serve as a sort of ground cover. I don't mind, really. While I like mowing, I have no interest in 'lawn care'. I mow around the buttercups and the Indian Paintbrushes, too.
