Article at AppleInsider (
link) gives some background. I'll be moving on (looking at you,
eero) if Apple has indeed gotten out of that market, but QuickerTek has some
upgrades and options if you want to stick with the venerable Apple Airport Extreme.

jdc,
Nopes. I'm willing to bet that most people use the networking hardware provided by their ISP and don't think about purchasing their own equipment at all. Even then, if the equipment fails, they aren't likely to by their own router. They'll call the ISP, troubleshoot the issue and, if necessary, have them replace botched piece of equipment.

My problem is KomKast, Southern Sektor, whose wifi router I must use because we have landline (yes, still need) service with them. It's a lot cheaper than ATT, our only other option. So, even though I have a heap of AirPort Base Stations, I still have to use theirs.

Still trying to figure out how to get computer music to a stereo if an airport router is not used. The receiver is about 15 years old, so no airplay integration.

It's also good to know a bit and do research ahead of when an item will be needed, given that you'll likely need to upgrade equipment at some point.
