For a short while, I tried to get guitar picks from fav musicians when playing small venues. I should have thought to do this earlier in life because all of a sudden, seeing top class musicians in tiny venues became very rare.
From left to right, that's Dave Grisman, Steve Hackett and Steve Morse.
Grisman's came from a barn-like venue in Davis, Ca in 1982? I think it was called 'The Barn'. The Fender MED Teardrop is from Steve Hackett at the Roxy in LA 10/15/80 (one of my favorite all-time shows and I'm thrilled to have this bit of memorabilia from it). The Steve Morse pick was from an unannounced Dixie Dregs show at the Oasis Ballroom (dive in Sacramento) 1982(?). Sometimes bands would set up a quick Sacramento show before or after the scheduled Bay Area show. I only heard about this one because my dad was eating dinner at the restaurant across the street and the Dregs were in there. He calls me and says something like, 'Hey that band you like.. the Dixie something is playing tonight'. I found that very hard to believe, but I called verified it. Another favorite show - this was when Mark O'Conner was with the band - they were insanely good. I probably saw them the next night in the bay area, but I don't remember.
I also have one or two picks from Allan Holdsworth. I saw him twice during this period at the diviest of dives and surely would have remembered to get a pick, but I can't remember which one it might be or if I still have it...
