I just received a Radeon 9600 XT, modified it, and installed it in my MDD G4

A cube? (Remember, I'm still pretty new at this stuff)

I recently saw that the StangeDogs guys got a PC Geforce 6200 card hacked and flashed and it's supposed to work very well in there. The downside is that it requires you to resolder a chip on the card. (The ROM chip, PCs have a 64K ROM, Macs need 128K)

I believe Geforce 3's are the right height for Cubes. Anything beyond that, and I'd need to do some searching. The main thing is that there's supposed to be a support or something in the cube which limits the height the video card can be. (That, and there's very little power headway to allow for superfast cards, you're stuck with the low-end cards from each new line or you have a high risk of blowing some voltage regulator).

Grim,

Yeah, saw all the same stuff– but you mentioned the 6800 and it's inability to work in a cube, that's why I brought it up– thought you knew something "secret"

What kind of card are you looking to get?

Performance, Price, perks, ect?

I might start taking a look through the pages with a cube in mind. It could be fun to go through just to learn about it. Would you be doing the mod yourself, or? I'm interested in trying, I just don't want to buy an expensive card when I already have a very nice card in my MDD.

Buying the card, plus the parts, plus the equipment to do the ROM swap (better soldering iron, some tools, and a desoldering iron to convert into a focused heat gun), adds up quickly when you're not even going to make use of the card.

FYI, the 9600 isn't supported in OS 9. It will boot in OS 9, but graphics acceleration won't work.

That's alright. I don't even have OS 9 installed on any of my hard drives on the system.

I might play some Diablo II later, but it's not all that graphics intensive.
