We've been using TRENDnet TEG-PCITXR gigabit ethernet PCI cards in OS 9 and OS X systems. For OS 9 compatibility, a beta Realtek driver is needed, which I received from a Realtek tech support engineer. They work without additional drivers under OS X.

These cards run around $14-$15 each on the net.

I got a Hawking card for my G4/AGP for (I think) $20 or so: definitely under $30.

I think the Hawking might have needed drivers for Panther, can't remember, but definitely didn't need anything to work with Tiger.

Is there any reason you're sticking with 10.2.8? Panther would provide quite a boost in speed and software compatibility.



Is there a problem with the ethernet in your MDD, or are you just upgrading to faster ethernet than what's built in?

thanks, all, and ka, for the xlr8 pointer. I would like to upgrade, but use Logic Pro 6 and other OS9 programs that get sensitive or unusable with later OSs.

These cards have been running for almost two years in a gigabit network and have worked perfectly under both OS 9 and X.

Gotta be a problem, as the MDD has GigE. hell, any Apple tower after 2000 has GigE.
