The tone and language of many recent posts is horrible.

[quote M A V I C]I wouldn't quite say they're utopias, but personal attacks or flames usually only occur a couple times a year. Rules are in place on how to deal with that, and it's dealt with swiftly. A few keys to it I think are enforcing the rules evenly and for everyone. We've even given a mod a short ban for his momentary lapse in common sense. So the community knows we're serious and none of us are "above the law."
I meant utopia to be funny. Anytime you can find an online community where most people get along well MOST of the time, you're lucky. Smile

I do agree with you on rules (and consistent enforcing of them) being very important. Those are definitely key. Everyone should be subject to the same rules. Anyone who oversees an online community should be able to put personal biases aside and enforce rules consistently. Heck, I've even had "moderate" my own mother before. Smile

[quote Black Landlord]Could be I have the offender on "muzzle". Or it could be that the offending post(s) were pulled quite quickly.

I think a lot of the name calling, etc. gets pulled so quickly that, unless you're there while it's happening, you aren't aware it even happened. In a lot of ways, that's as it should be.

I think if someone is having their posts pulled a lot, a mod should step in and PM the offender privately as a warning. I have no idea if that's done here.

It is.

Sometimes Inter-Moderator communication is not as fast as we would like.

The "Red Phones" are in the shop for firmware upgrades.

Thank you for stating that! It's very nice to hear. Smile Overall, I've been impressed at how fast a lot of the insults have been pulled. Just wondered what kind of follow up (if any) was going on behind the scenes.

Now I know the real reason I haven't been coming here as much as I used to! This forum is just not as good as it used to be... (but then, many things aren't Wink).

It has definitely changed though, and I think not for the better.

What is really frustrating is when it is someone that is very knowledgeable stirring the pot. That was why losing Elmo3 was so frustrating. His posts were either rich with information that was relevant or incendiary fodder for flame wars. It was either/or with Elmo3. Some of the other posters that have filled the void left behind from him seem to have a monthly cycle I've noticed. I'm not going to extrapolate anything from that cycle, but it seems that they are well behaved for 3 weeks then go on a rampage for a week. Wash, rinse, repeat.

'fil says he is, but I think it's some kind of double-secret X-ray vision.
