The tone and language of many recent posts is horrible.

Wow, I've obviously missed a lot. Which is good.

[quote lafinfil][quote LaserKun][quote GuyGene]Now I know the real reason I haven't been coming here as much as I used to! This forum is just not as good as it used to be... (but then, many things aren't Wink).

It has definitely changed though, and I think not for the better.
I couldn't have said it better!
Wow - both you guys posting from the same ISP in Tokyo

You guys neighbors ?

We don't get a lot of posters from Tokyo
It's not all that much of a mystery if you read this post

Or was that question really meant to be humor with a missing smiley.

I think if someone is having their posts pulled a lot, a mod should step in and PM the offender privately as a warning. I have no idea if that's done here.

It is.

Sometimes Inter-Moderator communication is not as fast as we would like.

The "Red Phones" are in the shop for firmware upgrades.
Thank you for stating that! It's very nice to hear. Smile Overall, I've been impressed at how fast a lot of the insults have been pulled. Just wondered what kind of follow up (if any) was going on behind the scenes.
and we are scattered across the globe. very little we do is a knee-jerk reaction. It is usually done with at least consulting another moderator. And yes, mods have been called to the mat as well. The rules apply to everyone.

and once again, when someone gets banned, they have usually gotten several last warnings. In the case of elmo3, he was banned, and reappeared in less than a day (maybe a few hours) and essentially flipped us the bird.

What the heck were we supposed to do? When someone has NO respect for the rules, they have no place here.

Different denizens here have differing opinions and tollerance levels for what is considered a personal attack. We need to abide with rules that were set out for us to supervise and apply them as best as we see fit. We are human, just as you all are.

The best that we can do is try and foster the proper environment for this place to flourish.

All the mods are volunteers, and non of us do it for ego. For the most part, it is a pain in the arse. But we do it because we like it here, and want it to flourish.

One feature I really liked on the other forum was the option to turn off comments from a particular poster. Are we able to do that here?

When so and so's rudeness started to irritate me on the other forum, I simply turned him off for a while. If he continued to act like a slob, I turned him off permanently. If enough people turn a rude poster off, he receives no responses to his posts because no one is reading them. Loss of feedback is what drives rude people absolutely nuts.

Don't blame me.
I make a joke and somebody with too much Time on his hands starts attacking me.

Don't you remember your mother telling you it's not what you say, but how you say it.
Sometimes your "jokes" cut to the quick. whether you realize it or not.

That's what makes online communication difficult - you often can't tell for certain just how a comment is "meant" to be interpreted (unless, of course, it's just outright nasty).

That may very well be the case. The way the rules are enforced, it's tough to tell how much actually gets done. But I have seen knee-jerk reactions on more than a few occasions.

The rules apply to everyone.

You may think so, but I know at least one other mod does not think that way. And I'm not talking about what that mod posted, but rather openly not enforcing the rules even when cited.

I wonder how many of the moderators have noticed the TOS link at the bottom of this page doesn't work. The actual rules are at: http://www.macresource.com/tos.cfm

Some of the rules there that are commonly broken are:
•Use a message board or other service to harass others
•Use MacResource Forums and/or Price.com to disseminate any inappropriate, defamatory, libelous, threatening, infringing, obscene, or unlawful material or information
•Violate any copyright law, or other intellectual property law
•Violate any criminal statute

Any attempt to manipulate forum rankings by artificially inflating counts of visitors, message views, postings or other items used in determining the forum's standing will be considered a violation of this agreement

Message boards and other services provided by MacResource Forums and/or Price.com may not be used for unauthorized commercial purposes -including participation in any affiliate program other than that operated by MacResource Forums and/or Price.com- is prohibited.

(And, yes, I did ask permission to put the affiliate link for MacInTouch in my sig)

What's even more saddening about all this, is one moderator has broken the TOS in this very thread. It's not the first time the same moderator has broken the same policy.

There is nothing wrong here that I have noticed, or matters. Now let's get back to work.

No one is any more entitled to post here than anyone else.

Your post count does not allow you extra privileges.

New posters to this forum are just as welcome as those with 10K posts.

I hope things improve.
