Strange, I just had a long exchange with one of the mods who made it painfully clear that the political side is not meant to flourish, but is only a dumping ground for content that needs to be hidden from the bots.
So I guess when you say "here" and "this place" you really only mean the tips forum.
Any chance a few more helpers could be recruited that may see the benefit of having a lively discussion and a vibrant community on both sides?

This used to be a place where you could ask a Mac question and count on getting a helpful answer within a reasonable period of time. Now it seems the only thing you can count on is getting insulted. If you remember, we left DM to come here for that reason.

By permitting this bullying pattern, which has been repeating for years to flourish, folks like JJ who start popular threads about the negative tone are essentially condoned by the mods as being one of the clearly-labeled "riff raff".

What exactly should be done to change that? For the most part, this forum is still self-moderated-- if you see a problem speak up, of if you're feeling lucky address the person individually and see if you can give 'em a nudge in the right direction.

As I recall the exodus from dealmac had something to do with discovering the forum split in 5 one day, and the overall lack of interest in user feedback. But beyond that there were more complaints about the heavy-handedness of the mods than there were about antisocial participants. I think the overall feeling upon moving was liberation.

So, what exactly is it that you're calling for?

If you remember correctly, there were a variety of reasons people left DM. Not all of them were shared by everybody.

There are a few posters here who go out of their way to say something negative when they see an opportunity. That won't change and that's very tough to moderate.

I think most of us are adult enough to know when we are being rude, mean, and/or spiteful. That is seldom a matter of interpretation except to a few addle-pated posters who see insult in every response that does not contain praise.

Maybe the S/N will increase, but I hold no great hope. It's subject to Forum Ebb and Flow, and trying to stem the noise seems to be losing battle.

In real life we associate with a narrower spectrum of people, given the choice. I don't think most of use would associate with most posters here, just because of the various personalities that can anonymously gather and post.

And some of us probably would not tolerate the behavior of some of the posters.
