I think you're better off with lafinfil's suggestion until you can get it properly painted. Just slapping paint on top of paint without sanding first isn't going to make it easier to paint later, it will make it harder. You'll wind up with paint flaking off while you drive.

If you take $tevie's bus and drink the Kool-Aid you might see flaking paint with your eyes closed.
Will silly string stick to a fixative ?

Just buy a large quantity of gray primer and do your roller thing.
