Went down to the St. James Apple Store to see the MBA there.
I went straight for the 11" model. (For me, if I'm going for the 13" screen, I'll get a MBP.) It was the 1.4GHz/2G model, which is probably the standard.
As others have said, this is a great, beautiful machine. I shut it down and restarted. From pushing the Power button to getting to the desktop was 15s. From sleeping the 'Book (by closing the lid) to waking it (by opening the lid) was 2s or slightly less.
Opening various apps took approximately 1s (Safari), 2s (forgot what apps) and about 5s or less, for bigger apps like MS apps, GarageBand, iPhoto, etc.
Instant, no. But it's pretty darn close.
Light and solid. I torqued it a bit to see if it would twist, and it didn't. The hinge is very smooth and as light as it is, lifting the lid up to about 45d did not lift the base off the table.
The screen is gorgeous. Graphics purists will probably not like the vibrant, saturated colors, but I did.
This is now on my list of Must Haves.
