Not bad. I'm pretty sure that is an old Vizio and I don't mean 2010 model. That might be a 2009 TV. Sort of weird color to the bezel as well, but not too bad otherwise. That Toshiba probably isn't bad either. $350 is about the cheapest price I've seen for a 60Hz CCFL backlight 1080p 32" HDTV. There is an LED edge lit Vizio 720p HDTV for about the same price. Probably worth checking into. Depending whether you want 720p or 1080p.

Sure. But there's nothing wrong with buying an older model. Especially if you really ONLY need the TV part. All the other bells and whistles are meaningless to my mom. She needs one or two hdmi ports and...well, that's about it. She is still using a CRT so anything would be better.

I meant that the 2010 TVs should be pretty cheap soon, so why buy a 2009 model for the same price unless it is somehow better than the 2010?

this is true. I suppose it all boils down to how long she wants to wait.

The Toshiba seems like a good deal, but it doesn't mention viewing angles.

$455 in Jan 2009 at slickdeals archive

I went with a newer Vizio when I got my mom one last Summer because the menus were bigger and easier to see from far away.
Razor screen with led backlights. I don't think I spent more than $350, but I'd really have to check.

heh. that's another thing she probably doesn't care about. she's usually doing something else while a movie is on. I don't know that I've ever seen her sit down and actually watch an entire movie. Plus her seating area is directly in front of the TV.
