what happens if Time Machine is active, and I close the lid?
#1
I have Time Machine backing up to an Airport Shared drive. Sometimes I forget to check whether a backup is in progress and I just close the lid.

Will that screw up the backup? or TM will pick up from where it left when I open the lid a few hours later?

I believe it just continues where it left off. I never pay any attention to whether it's running or not when I put the computer to sleep and have never suffered for it (that I know of, anyway).

Not the Airport-drive, but I had a hard drive plugged in and accidentally closed the lid.

When I realized, came back and checked the Time Machine had completed its work and the computer had gone to sleep.

I thought I read somewhere that it would mess up...something. Perhaps not.

The fan comes on on my laptop when TM is doing its thing. Anybody else?

what model? is that the 2 year old powerbook? my wife's 3 year old MacBook rarely has the fan off. Flash (even when not playing video) heats up the whole computer.

That's like asking what happens to the refrigerator light when you close the door. It's one of the mysteries of life...

The light goes out. There's a switch you can push to see.

And in this case, when you close the lid it still flushes just as much as if you left the lid open.
