panasonic Plasma. Suppose I leave the room for ~10 min but I know I want to continued wathcing TV when I return. Should I just let it run or turn it off? I am worried that turning it ON and OFF too much might cause some failures at some point? on th other hand 10 minutes, several times a day, it adds up, but wear and tear on TV and also waster energy.
debate!

Stepping away one time or several times for a few mints, leave it on for reliability. Turn off at every opportunity to save electricity.

If you have the TV on for several hours a day yes it'll wear out faster, regardless of any 10 minute breaks it gets.

We wouldn't turn it off unless being out the Den for 30 minutes or more. Naturally if we weren't watching anything it wouldn't be on at all.

I'm glad your eyeballs get a break for ten minutes several times a day.
You'll save a whole 2% every 4 hours ?
Might be less thermal stress just leaving it on.

You may wear out the power switch as well.

If you turn it off, you might miss some commercials.

If you have a Tivo, be sure to pause it.
