The Verizon does both CDMA & GSM, while the ATT is GSM only. Not sure about Sprint's variant, tho IIRC, Sprint makes you jump thru more hoops to unlock, while Verizon's of that vintage were unlocked.

IIRC, the only universal phone is an unlocked from Apple.
