I'm kind of surprised that this story didn't hit the MRF "Friendy" side. You think Texas and Florida are bad? Parents are up in arms protesting that kids need to be freed from masks, saying that "...elementary-aged kids have suffered this school year as a result of COVID-19 restrictions like mask rules..."

So this person thinks that it's a good idea to have a 7000 student school system get shut down in order to "stand up to the state":
While we're talking about covid-19, let's just go ahead and bring in gender issues:
And finally from that article, the big bad gubmint wants to control our kids.
Did you see how perfectly the protesters wore their masks? Oh, wait...

Uh, sure lady.
Just to let you know, Ottawa County, MI and Hudsonville especially have a high percentage of Christian Reformed people, the Christian Reformed are quite conservative, maybe not quite to the extent of Baptists, but still pretty hard core.
Definitely Trump country.

MLive wrote: But Gamby said if Hudsonville were to make masks optional, the act of “standing up to the state” would be worth the risk of being forced to shut down.
“I think it’s a worthwhile risk to take because at some point, somebody needs to stand up and fight for our kids’ health,” she said. “Not COVID health, but their mental health, their physical health of what wearing a mask does to their little body, and their academic health, they can’t continue to learn and thrive with a mask over their face.”

MLive wrote: DeBois said he thinks it is “common sense” for schools to make masks optional.
“If the schools are allowing students and parents to choose their gender, they should be allowing us to decide whether or not our own children wear a mask,” DeBois said.
And finally from that article, the big bad gubmint wants to control our kids.
MLive wrote: “The government cannot make a decision for my kids’ health,” she said. “And that’s what it boils down to, the government is controlling what is best for my kids, and that is a parent’s choice.”

Salon wrote: Hudsonville mom Jeanette Schuiteman, who has a son in the 11th grade, expressed a number of concerns. While masks were the dominant complaint, many also aired their grievances about the social distancing measures noting how their children have only had minimal interaction with others since school started. Schuiteman insists the measures are "physically not healthy."
She believes masks should be voluntary decisions made by individuals; not the school district.
"I think that's a decision that a parent should be able to make given the harmful side effects that might occur because of it," she said. "There is not really any scientific evidence to back up the effectiveness of masks for transmitting a virus."
